Sam Barklis is that rare human being who turned what can be a debilitating disorder into an avenue in which to help many,
many other people. My wife is bi-polar and has been for forty-seven years, but until she met Dr. Sam, she suffered a continual
series of hospitalizations, shock therapy and inept psychiatry
practiced by psychiatrists who only thought they knew about this disorder. Dr. Sam has her on the road to being "level" and I do wish all bi-polar people could benefit from his vast wisdom and the thrill of being level and not subject to the radical ups and downs of this disorder. The book was a most insightful journey into the life of a bi-polar personality, but because of his modesty, only failed to touch on the magnificience of the man who not only lives it but gives, not hope, but realization of a
"miracle" in my opinion and the concensus of opinions of every life he touches. Should be required reading for all physicians
and psychiatric medicine practioners.

If you love poetry, or ever feel like you are a nobody and the walls are falling down around you, then I encourage you to
get this book. I cried half way through the book, because it was like he knew me and how I felt and gave me hope that I am
somebody and I can accomplish all things through God who strenghtens me. If you ever get a chance to hear Tim Jones preach/teach
I encourage you to go. He is truly a man of God, and just an amazing person. He allows God to work through him to minister
to others.....I am so blessed to have meet him, and to get this book and read it over and over again, when I get discouraged
from life.

Everyone told Sandra she would be happy. People described in rapt detail the overwhelming feeling of love and purpose that
would envelope her at her dauther's birth. Nothing prepared Sandra for the heavy fog of dread and loss that descended upon
her in the delivery room on the day she gave birth. When the nurse handed her the crying, bruised, purple-pink bundle, Sandra
had to fight the urge to hand the bundle back and run. She wanted to turn the clock back nine months before any of this had
happened. When she did spend time with her daughter, instead of singing soothing lullabies, Sandra found herself whispering,
"I hate you. I wish you had never been born."
Pregnancy, childbirth, and early motherhood is supposed to be a time filled with joy and wonder of bringing a new life into the world. Unfortunately, some women find that the struggles of early motherhood are accompanied by multiple sorrows that clash with this picturesque ideal. As difficult as it may be for a person who has not experienced it to understand, Sandra's feelings are quite common among new mothers struggling with the physical, emotional, and social upheaval that follows giving birth. In this transitional period, some women become more vunerable to depression and may experience psychiatric disorders such as postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis.
Drug Therapy and Postpartum Disorders will tell you more about these disorders, the experiences of women who have faced them, and the treatments that can help. -- from book's back cover

This beautiful book was surprising in so many ways. How can something so brutal in its honesty about suicidal urges and bereavement
be so comforting? "Death is not the opposite of life; the opposite of death is birth," she writes. "Life has no opposite.
It is a constant, like the universe. Suicide solves nothing." Amazing stuff.

Ellie, a Jewish girl in the 1930's living in New York City, went from riches to rags. What caused this great tragedy? The
Great Depression. During this time, stock markets crashed, banks paniced, businesses failed and millions of people experienced
poverty. Ellie used to live in a large home and spent her time shopping and attending college. Because of the Depression,
her family no longer had money for her education and needed to save the little money that was left for necessities. The young
girl had to find a job in order to support herself and her father, who was never hired because of his age and thick Jewish
accent. She finally accomplished this goal when she met a man named Lionel. Lionel was an opinionated Communist who also became
Ellie's love interest. He found her a job working for the League Against War and Facism. Ellie's and Lionels spark soon demolished
when he went to Spain in order to fight for and follow his dream of an end to facism. He died fighting for what he believed
in. Then, Ellie met Paul who was a German-Jew. He had to run away from Germany because of Hitler's slaughtering of innocent
Jews as the Holocaust began. Paul was afraid to open up because of his guilt for leaving his family, whom he knew they would
most likely be killed. He and Ellie eventually grew closer and got engaged. Ellie also started working as an assistant to
a fashion designer and eventually found a job as a fashion designer herself. She finally had followed her dream, even though
the odds and the economy were against her favor.
As leader of a country, the powerful Hitler had a great level of responsibilty. He was responsible for the minds and opinions of his people especially the youth. If they saw the leader of their country doing something, they'd want to do the same. He took advantage of his power and brainwashed them into thinking that Jews were not worthy of living by using the media and portraying Jews as bad people. His people participated in the burning of synagogues, aiding of the deportation of the Jews, and some even financially supported the training camps. Hitler took his responsibility as leader and used it in a negative way which resulted in the deaths of many innocent lives.
