A children's picturebook about the true meaning of Christmas

Josie's Gift is a children's picturebook about the true meaning of Christmas. Beautifully illustrated with museum- quality artwork by Frank Ordaz, the story is about a young girl whose father died a year ago, and who hopes to receive a beautiful blue sweater as a Christmas gift. She years for it, thinking that having it will fill the void deep inside. Her mother teaches her that "Christmas is not about what we want. It's about what we have." But it's not until a family with a baby comes by in need of shelter that she remembers what the Christmas nativity display really means. By giving her blue sweater to the baby, and giving thanks to God and Jesus, she feels full once more. "For Christmas, she knew, wasn't about what she wanted. It was about what she had, deep down in her soul that only God could give." A profound and heartwarming story meant to be shared with the whole family during the holiday season.

I read this book when I was in third grade and have loved it ever since. The book is about a girl who takes a journey and throughout that journey meets many different people, she learns that judging people is very nice, unless you learn to know them. Natty is not very rich, in fact, she is actually poor but she still lives with that fact. If you have a child who is still in the process of learning how to read, or even loves to read chapter books, this is the right one for him or her. Enjoy!

Jep Hostetler is a wonderful human being and a must-read author. His message is rich, and his senses of joy and humor are contagious. More of the world needs to discover what Jep has to offer.

I discovered him quite by accident a few months ago, went to see him speak and bought his book immediately (of which I read it two days because I didn't want to set it down). I've seen him speak twice now and was riveted (as well as in stitches laughing) both times. In fact, last night's group gave him not only their full attention, but also a standing ovation -- which is a first for this particular crowd of community business leaders, doctors, administrators, etc.

In both his book and in person, Jep is plain speaking, light-hearted, filled with common sense, and has a way of communicating that easily speaks to people in every walk of life. He's what I would describe as a true treasure, real rarity and sheer Joy!

a truly amazing book and author

I recently had the good fortune to attend one of Jep Hostetler's presentations on the Joy Factor. He has such a profound way of reminding us that life is a gift and that we can learn to become people of joy even admist sorrow and pain. Thank you, Jep, for caring enough about the human race to do what you're doing, and to share your experiences with us in a written format so that it can reach many more people. You are awesome indeed!

As Rachel Lieberman's husband,I have first hand experience with this book. It is truly a labor of love, a most reader friendly, non-technical book. The book reaches out and touches those who are searching for experience, strength and hope in their lives.

This, her first book, holds your interest throughout with personal poety, journaling and prose. This book helped me with some of my dysfunctional issues and to better understand the nature of this insidious dis-ease of codependency that so many of us suffer from.

Our relationship together, has developed and matured, as a result of Rachel's desire to heal and find the person inside that she was meant to be. Many readers have expressed to me their admiration and praise of Rachel's sharing her journey to wellness.I recommend this book to all who are struggling with dysfunction to find themselves.

I am nearly 40 years old but this story pops up in my memories every now and then when I see my son. .... It is a timeless story about a young boy at the verge of manhood and the sometimes painful experiences that boys go through during that period. The characters are wonderful. I still remember Boy Sword and his grandfather and the hogleg pistol that Boy used, and his dad building a hive for the swarming bees. Absolutely fantastic writing! I am going to order a copy just so that I can read it to my eight-year old son.

This is a loving and warm story of a Mississippi family during the depression. As a Mississippian, I have never read a book that so clearly gives the reader the sense of being in the Mississippi farm culture during this time. The characters are based on Deal's real life experiences and each of them is a living, breathing person you will come to care deeply about. I hope you take the time to read it

Kelly Simons truly captures the spirit of one Wisconsin family during the early 1930's. I came across "Leona's Legacy" through a relative. My grandmother "Margie" is in Chapter 4 of Kelly's novel. I couldn't be more pleased to see my grandmother's spirit live on through memories of a distant relative. Simons does a beautiful job bringing these characters to life!

Wow. This book blew me away. Charlie Price interweaves important mental illness information for young people with an intriguing, fast-moving story. Although I thought I knew where it was headed, I was surprised and immensely satisfied by the ending. Price, with his background working in adolescent units of psychiatric hospitals, creates an original twist with credible characters as he skillfully weaves his plot. I loved Dead Connection, and this new book positions Charlie Price as a master of the young adult novel.

Vibrant characters and fast-moving plot!

Charlie Price has done it again! His first book, "Dead Connection," was a delight. "Lizard People" is equally delicious. His artful blending of science fiction, drama, and intrigue gripped me from start to finish. Throughout the book I kept second-guessing how it would end. I was wrong on all counts! "Lizard People" is a page turner that will captivate any reader. Read it!

Seminal work on attachment and loss, Technical, but readable.

Bowlby is a clear and cogent thinker who takes time to look at an important issue in tremendous detail. Taking into account much previous research and theorizing, he accepts and refutes a wide body of work in making his point. You may not agree with all of his conclusions (I may not agree with all of his conclusions), but this is not a book to be discounted lightly. Should be required reading for anyone interested in the fields of psychoanalysis and child development.

Classic study of an important topic

This book was first published in 1973, and the work of it was done mostly in the 1960's by Briton Dr. Bowlby. It's "Volume Two" of a trilogy, but does not have to read along with the companion volumes. Like his other two works on childhood, this interesting work, again, introduces his ideas and promotes a compassionate understanding of the lives of children.

Separation anxiety, anxious attachment, and other phenomena of attachment are well-known and accepted reactions now - we expect it from our pets as well as our babies - but at one time, were less well understood (and anticipated.) This work, lucidly and compassionately, lays it out for the reader. The book is divided into three sections, and in a well-organized and deeply accessible fashion, Bowlby proceeds. The Sections are "Security, Anxiety, and Distress," "An Ethological Approach to Human Fear," and finally, "Individual Differences in Susceptibility to Fear: Anxious Attachment".

Bowlby uses his own prior clinical work and that of others to support his assertions. The father's role, the role of anger and fear, and many other factors are discussed. This is a scholarly study, and has much to tell readers. It's thoroughly readable and interesting, not only for its subject but because Bowlby can tell a story and hold the reader's interest through-out. Not a "how-to" or a quick fix - rather, a deeply sensible and basic study. Highly recommended for parents, teachers, clinicians.
